Gagangiri Maharaj and his meeting with Shri Mataji

"Sabko Duwa Dena ..."

This is the beautiful and inspiring story behind the famous Sahaja Yoga bhajan, "Sabko Dua Dena."

Gagangiri Maharaj was a great Hatha Yogi from the Nath Sampradaya. He was a descendant of the Chalukya Emperor, Pulakeshin I. After leaving home at a young age, he came into contact with the Nath tradition. He traveled with the Nath Yogis to Battis Shirala (in Maharashtra), where he was initiated into the order. He performed severe austerities for many years, standing chest-deep in water. The fish in the water ate away a large part of his legs, but he remained steadfast and unwavering in his penance.

Around 1975-1977, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi went to meet him at the Gagangad fort. As She was climbing the hill, a heavy downpour started, and She was completely drenched by the time She reached the top. When She arrived, the Maharaj was very angry and said, "Mother, why didn't you let me stop the rain? Was this a test of my ego?"

Shri Mataji smiled and replied, “I knew that you had brought a sari for me, and I also knew that we cannot accept a sari from a sannyasi (a renunciate). However, there is no harm in accepting clothes after getting drenched, which is why I did not let you stop the rain! What is the big deal about it?”

Hearing this, the Maharaj laughed like a little child and had the darshan (divine vision) of Shri Mataji's true form.

Gagangiri Maharaj: Mother, I knew that you would come on this day to grant me my Self-Realization. I have been waiting for this moment for thousands of years. Through my harsh austerities and difficult life, I was able to cleanse every chakra from the Mooladhara up to the Agnya. But I knew that ultimately, only You could help me take the jump from the Agnya to the Sahasrara and attain that ultimate bliss. As You were climbing the hill, I could see You in Your primordial form of the Adi Shakti, with all the deities dancing in a divine procession.

(He then offered the sari to Shri Mataji. Afterwards, he looked at all the Sahaja Yogis who had accompanied Her.)

Gagangiri Maharaj: Mother, why are you giving this priceless gift (Self-Realization) to so many people? Do they understand its true value? Do they realize what they have achieved so easily? It took me thousands of years to get my Realization. I had to go through countless severe penances and hardships.

Shri Mataji: You are a Guru and cannot be a Mother. I am a Mother and cannot be a Guru like you. A Mother always gives everything to her children selflessly. A Guru expects his disciple to face all the tests before receiving the blessings, but a Mother cannot do that. So, now that you have achieved this state, why don't you help me in my work?

Gagangiri Maharaj: As you say, Mother. …I was not fortunate enough to have a Mother like You, before…!!!

Gagangiri Maharaj: (To all the Sahaja Yogis) All of you are extremely fortunate to be receiving so much from the Mother Herself. So, understand its value and grow in it.!!!

A few days later, Maharaj's most beloved disciple, Shri Madhu Pawar, who used to write all of Maharaj's bhajans, had to go to Mount Abu for a yoga camp. He went to the Maharaj to ask for permission. The Maharaj said, "Go! And on your way, make sure to visit Shri Mataji in Delhi!"

He met Shri Mataji in Delhi and, after bowing at Her Lotus Feet, sought Her permission to leave. At that moment, Shri Mataji asked for a bundle of one-hundred-rupee notes and offered it to him, but he started refusing. Shri Mataji forcefully placed it in his hands and said, "Take it as prasad (a blessed offering); it will be useful." He took the money and left.

When he reached the railway station and took out his wallet to buy a ticket, he saw that all his money was gone. He was stunned and thought, "How did Shri Mataji know that I had run out of money!!!"

He then completed his entire journey with the money given by Shri Mataji, and throughout the trip, he was only meditating on Her. When the camp was over, he returned to Delhi, met Shri Mataji again, and offered a bhajan he had written at Her Lotus Feet.

That bhajan was none other than,

”Sabko Dua Dena, Mā, Sabko Dua Dena” (Give blessings to all, Mother, give blessings to all)

Shri Mataji loved the bhajan so much that She selected it as an 'Aarti' for Sahaja Yoga.

This is why there is a line in the bhajan:

”Jab dil mein aaye toh Madhu sangeet sun lo“ (When it comes to your heart, listen to the sweet music)

Here, 'Madhu' refers to Madhu Pawar, the disciple of Gagangiri Maharaj.

The Healing of Anantrao and His Family Through Sahaja Yoga

AN EXPERIENTIAL TREATISE On SAHAJA YOGA,  WRITTEN BY V. N .PHADKE,  A SAHAJA YOGI  Summary The Healing of Anantrao and His Family Through Sahaja Yoga Anantrao Reddy was first introduced to Sahaja Yoga during a program at Shri Mataji’s Prabhadevi residence, where he was found having a strong possession that was diagnosed by vibrations. He began visiting Phadke’s house for daily guidance, where he gradually improved through chakra treatments, vibrated water, and meditation. Despite health issues like a weak heart, he began feeling 15 years younger after a week of treatment. As his involvement deepened, Phadke discovered the real cause of Anantrao’s persistent chakra catches: possession by the soul of, Tatya Maharaj, whose belongings Anantrao still kept. Once these items were discarded into the sea, his condition improved somewhat—but not fully. Later, Phadke found that Anantrao also had his late wife's photo on the wall, which showed heavy catches. He warned that her ...

Fragrance of Roses: short miraculous experiences by Sahaja Yogis

These stories are from The Breeze of Sahasrara , the book Shri Mataji asked me to compile about Sahaja miracles. These particular experiences relate to the sense of smell. Linda Williams |  FB: SY Friends & Family |  21. August, 2015 Smell Chris Marlow shared an experience that occurred multiple times: "My friend and I had been out for a pizza in London and were walking home. Suddenly, we were struck by an incredible smell of roses—very powerful and unmistakable. We looked around to see where it was coming from, but it wasn’t coming from anywhere obvious. Then we realized we were standing outside Darwin Court in North London. Shri Mataji was staying there at the time. I told my friend it was a well-known phenomenon that Shri Mataji’s presence is often accompanied by the fragrance of roses." Pamela Bromley , one of the first Sahaja Yogis in Brighton, England, recalled: "In the early 1980s, I was on my way to a Sahaja Yoga meeting in Brighton. As I was drivin...

Releasing Unfulfilled Ghosts - Experiential Treatise - Phadke Miracles

Summary: Chapter 17 AN UNFULFILLED SPIRIT CAN BE LIBERATED with SAHAJA YOGA. In 1992–93, a lady doctor from Worli approached Phadke in distress. Her husband, also a doctor, had recently died under mysterious circumstances after vomiting blood, despite normal medical reports. Since his death, the family felt a strong, frightening presence in their bedroom—believed to be his dissatisfied spirit. They locked the room and were living in fear. Seeking help, the woman and her family were introduced to Sahaja Yoga. They were given realization, started meditating daily, and attended collective sessions. One day, on her wedding anniversary, the woman felt her husband's physical presence — he kissed her — which terrified her. She rushed to Phadke, who calmed her, checked her vibrations, and gave her vibrated kumkum to apply on specific chakras and around the house. Later, Sahaja Yogis collectively meditated in the haunted bedroom, feeling pressure on their chakras, indicating the spirit’s p...
